Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue’s (FMAR) History:
FMAR is a non-profit 501(c) 3 rescue for dogs and cats founded in April 2003 by Pete & Marcy LaFramboise, with the help of great volunteers and supporters. The shelter’s rapid growth required additional space, so the founders purchased a 6.5 acre farm that contained 2 barns. Throughout the past 20 years, FMAR’s has grown from one small building housing both cats and dogs, to include the Cat Haven, a large community cat area, and the Dog Retreat, which now houses up to 24 dogs. In addition, a third building exists as an isolation location for sick animals and Sumpter Township Strays.
FMAR is the reality of a vision created by Pete & Marcy and now through their retirement will continue to grow and thrive with the help and determination of all the dedicated staff, board members and volunteers.
Our Team
FMAR is supported by 5 part time employees and 100 loving and caring volunteers who dedicate their time caring for the animals! We’re always looking for new volunteers to join our team!
